First Presbyterian Church SE Alabama PCA

The form of church government we believe is most scriptural is called "Presbyterian." This means we are governed by presbyters, or elders, who are elected by the congregation as representatives to oversee the work and ministries of the church.

Our deacons comprise the other class of officers in the congregation. Their function is to minister primarily in the area of the physical needs of the members and the church facilities.

We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America, a young denomination which began in 1973. For a brief, yet thorough history of the PCA, please visit www.pcanet.org

Martin Luther said the whole of the Christian life should be spent in repentance. That is, in an awareness of the Holiness of God and a dependency upon Him to be conformed to His image. As a local body of Christ, we recognize that we must constantly seek the way of God and put aside our inclinations toward selfishness. Then we can grow as Christians and become rooted in the stability that only God can give us. From personal growth and nurture within our body, we seek to be people who truly are set apart to do the Lord's work both in our community and throughout the world.

We would be Christians who understand our responsibility to God to impact our culture in His name. This means evangelizing those who don't know Christ. It means sharing food and material blessings with those who are without sustenance. It means counseling couples with marital difficulties. It means boldly opposing abortions, pornography, and other activities that are in opposition to the ways of God. It means praying for a friend who's lost a job. It means being a friend to the lonely. It means comforting the divorcee. It means teaching creationism as stated in Scripture as truth. It means loving and nurturing and caring for one another.

In all these areas and more, we seek to worship the living God through the application of His Word in our lives, so as to impact the culture for His glory.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
